They don’t have to be very big – they take a long time to decompose thought. Just make sure it has 4 sides and a top.

i use chicken wire stake it to the ground it wasnt big but it worked
I just bought a small plastic garbage can then cut out most of the bottom of it so the bugs could get into it to do their duty.
Works like a charm!
Get a 50 gallon or smaller drum with a top and bottom
drill a hole in the center of the top and bottom.
make 2 “A” frames and mount the barrel horizontally with an “A” frame at each end. use a heavy steel bar run through both ends of the barrel and attach to the “A” frames
Cut a door into the side of the barrel for filling and emptying
Install a latch to keep it closed.
Fill it with junk and some water
spin the barrel weekly to encourage even decomposition. Empty and start over when full and decomposed.
If you have space use 4 4×4 posts for corners. Attach 2×4′s at top and bottom to make a 3 sided box – one side open for access. Use 1×6 fenceboards for walls – leave a 1-inch gap between boards for air circulation.
Add grass clippings, kitchen veggie peelings, coffee grounds, egg shells, but NO MEAT! Add some garden dirt or manure every now and then to introduce bacteria to break down compost. Add a handful of fertilizer every now and then to help. And water it frequently.
I used one of those big wide bins from the super store (with the lid), just put some topsoil in it (a layer about 6 inches deep), then just turn once a week as you add your organic material. After it is full ,empty most of it, you will just keep 6 inches in the bottom and spread the rest where you need good soil !
Grab 3 wooden pallets and upend them in a corner out of the way to form a ‘U’. Then dump your organic waste into the middle.
I know I have read about this somewhere. I think you can do it “odor free” in your home. I do recall something about using newspaper between layers in a regular trash can. I couldn’t find that exact article but here are a couple of links that I found for you. I love the Ideal Bite daily news tips!!! And this guide basically covers EVERYTHING you could ever want to know about composting.
